Essex County Empire Zone

The Essex County Empire Zone is a not-for-profit corporation which has been helping to develop and maintain a diverse and stable economic base, locally, since 1988. Continuing state and federal programs have provided major infrastructure improvements to various light and heavy industrial sites.

The Essex County Industrial Development Agency has land available for development in the Moriah Business Park; tenants are eligible for EZ benefits.

Loan packaging assistance, waterfront and downtown revitalization assistance, tourism planning, and technical support for small businesses are offered on an ongoing basis by both the EZ and the Essex County IDA. Benefits of locating a business in the zone include tax credits, sales tax refunds on construction materials, 25% zone capital credit, and gas, electric and telephone rate reductions.

Town and Village governments are supportive of economic growth and provide a fast-track to successful business start-ups.
